[powr-multi-slider] Erasmus+ ist das Programm für Bildung, Jugend und Sport der Europäischen Union.

Dieses Projekt gehört zur Leitaktion 2: Zusammenarbeit zur Förderung von Innovation und zum Austausch von bewährten Verfahren.

Unter der Leitaktion 2 werden im Schulbereich unter den Strategischen Partnerschaften die bisherigen COMENIUS-Schulpartnerschaften verwaltet und unter veränderten Modalitäten fortgeführt. In diesem Fall handelt es sich um eine strategische Partnerschaft, an der unterschiedliche Schulen beteiligt sind (Strategische Partnerschaft im Schulbereich = bisherige Multilaterale COMENIUS-Projekte). Ziele sind:

  • Der transnationale Austausch guter Praxis unter den beteiligten Einrichtungen aus dem Schulbereich.
  • Die Entwicklung neuer Unterrichtsmethoden sowie innovativer Lehr- und Lernansätze, die auch zu besserer Nutzung von IKT (Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik) im Schulbereich führen.

Verbesserung und Vertiefung von Methoden zur Vermittlung von Kompetenzen/ Aneignung  und Professionalisierung von Unterrichtsmethoden des 21. Jahrhundert

Report on the second meeting of the Erasmus+ Project
No 2016-1-NO01-KA204-022089

 

The meeting took place in Königs Wusterhausen (Germany) on 09th and 10th February 2017 at Schule des Zweiten Bildungsweges Dahme-Spreewald (SZBW). The Spanish school participated with four delegates, the German school with five and the Norwegian school sent six delegates. Oslo VO Sinsen and SZBW cover the extra costs for the additional delegates.

Report on the fourth meeting of the Erasmus+ Project

To discuss how to teach basic skills and to develop methods for the 21st century, the fourth meeting focused on the following issues:

  • cognitive science and its implications for teaching,
  • diversity in the classroom and teaching strategies for diverse learning groups,
  • compiling tested methods and 'best practices' in a methodological toolkit,
  • the compilation of two conference portfolios.

 

On Wednesday afternoon, the meeting started with a lecture on Cognitive Science and its Implications for Teaching by Michael Luhnen. Based on Daniel T. Willingham’s book Why Don’t Students Like School? and its identification of nine cognitive principles fundamental to the mind’s operation, the lecture outlined five of these principles and explained how they can be used to help teachers improve their practice by prioritizing evidence based teaching approaches that take into account the way students think and learn.

Shortly afterwards Karin Müller gave a talk on Diversity in the Classroom: Teaching Strategies for Diverse Learning Groups. She first examined why common solutions to the problem of classroom diversity (such as internal or external differentiation) are inferior to task based learning, which aims at designing tasks that cover all levels to develop skills on all levels. Then she defined criteria for good tasks and finally focused on the distinction between tasks and exercises.

 Both talks paved the ground for Thursday’s workshops, which were held simultaneously. To develop methodological toolkits which compile tested methods and 'best practices', Piluca, Eugenio,.Mara, Eigil, Rosi and Michael L. focused on Cognitive Science and its Implications for Teaching, while Nina, Maria, Thomas, Daniela, Karin and Michael K. worked on Diversity in the Classroom. The participants in the Cognitive Science workshop first presented and then discussed both tested methods and exemplary lesson plans that offered solutions to some of the educational problems identified by Willingham. The lesson plans mostly revolved around issues such as making students think, furthering their factual knowledge, developing their deep knowledge etc. The workshop Diversity in the Classroom analysed the challenge of diversity for English and Mathematics classrooms and came up with exemplary tasks that will help to meet this challenge. After lunch both groups gave an overview of their workshop results. In the afternoon, each group compiled a workshop portfolio for the 4th Erasmus+ Mobility.

 A journalist from the local newspaper “Märkische Allgemeine” joined the meeting and interviewed some of the participants.

Most of Friday morning was spent with developing an agenda for the 5th Erasmus+ Mobility in Ronda. As new technologies affect education at all levels, all participants recognized the necessity to advance digital and media literacy in the classroom. Furthermore, there was a consensus that working in groups had proved successful so two groups were formed for the next meeting. Maria, Eugenio, Mara, Kari, Thomas, Eigil, Karin and Michael K. opted to work on advancing media literacy in the classroom. Nina, Piluca, Daniela and Michael L chose to focus on the integration of new technologies, including digital media, into classroom instruction to enhance digital literacy of students and teachers. It was agreed that EOI Ronda will assign tasks to members of both groups to prepare group work in Ronda.

The morning at SZBW ended with a quick evaluation of the meeting to assess whether everything on the agenda was discussed adequately. The participants felt that the purpose of the meeting was fully met and its outcome highly satisfactory.

The meeting ended with a traditional boat tour through the Spreewald, a unique biosphere reserve about 80 km southeast of Berlin. Exploring the quiet network of streams provided a welcome contrast to the busy agenda of the last two days and allowed everyone to unwind. The guided punting tour took us from Luebbenau to Lehde, where we had dinner at the Quappenschaenke and another opportunity to mingle and socialize with each other - as we had done on previous evenings at the Italian restaurant Osteria Forio in Koenigs Wusterhausen and Zum Schwiitzer in Zeesen.
